Anyone tempted to access child pornography online, even if you delete images and Internet page addresses from the computer's hard drive, police can still retrieve them, as they did with a PC belonging to pop star Gary Glitter, who was jailed for possessing child pornography.
"Once you look at a picture of child pornography, that counts as possession which is punishable by jail," according to Internet Watch Foundation (IWF)."Even if you delete it, it's not easily detectable but it still remains on your hard drive. Police or any other motivated person can find it."
IWF made its warning after Pete Townshend, songwriter and guitarist for "The Who," said he had looked at the front pages and previews of child pornography sites perhaps three or four times after accidentally stumbling across one. He was later arrested. He had used his credit card to access one.
His admission follows a report in a British tabloid newspaper that UK police, acting on information supplied by U.S. authorities, were investigating a "legendary British rock star" and deciding whether to make an arrest.

A barber shop in Quebec, Canada ran into trouble last month when local authorities discovered that the shop's female barbers were doing more than just stripping and clipping. Arni Ward of AMBNews reported that at its height, Le Salon Sex Symbol had thousands of customers per week, despite having only a single barber's chair

UK Gays: Legalize Sex in Public Lavatories LONDON — The British Parliament has lowered homosexuality’s age of consent to 16 — and British gay activists who pushed for that are now pushing an agenda that includes legalizing gay sex in public lavatories, as well as saunas and “cruising” areas. The London Daily Telegraph says the activists “have made clear” that Parliament’s passing the lowered age of homosexual consent is “only the start of a concerted effort” to drop all legislative restrictions on homosexual activity and relationships. The gay rights group OutRage sent a statement to the British Home Office saying it doesn’t believe consensual activity between adults are any of the law’s business, “no matter how bizarre they might appear to the majority… Thus we seek to legitimize consenting actions in bath-houses and saunas, ‘backrooms’ in pubs, and all group sex in private, including sado-masochistic games.” OutRage says “abuse of trust” between adults and minors should be punished, but the group also says all laws seeking to control recreational sex should be abolished. “The whole basis of the current homosexual control laws,” the OutRage statement says, “is moralistic and based on a largely medieval concept of Christianity which we believe has no place in a pluralistic democratic society.” |

Prostitutes Prepare for Olympic “Sex Boom SYDNEY — Prostitutes by the thousands in Australia are getting ready for what the BBC anticipates to be a sex boom during this year’s Olympic Games.Brothels plan an ad blitz in the on- and offline media to gear up for millions of extra tourists expected to hit Sydney in September for the games. The BBC says some parlor owners are rushing to build new premises to cash in, while others are looking to recruit workers from overseas to help meet the expected demand. “The sex industry here in Sydney is in for its busiest time ever,” Sex Workers Outreach Project manager Maria McMahon told the BBC. The group is launching a “cultural awareness” leaflet to let Olympic visitors know prostitution is legal in Australia. “We want them to enjoy themselves safely here,” McMahon says. “I’m sure they will. Sydney’s got some of the world’s best prostitutes.” And many of the safest, according to Bernadette Keefe of the AIDS Council of New South Wales. She told the BBC her group will “push the message home,” especially through the gay press, making sure pubs, clubs and brothels are well-stocked with condoms, lubricants and rubber gloves. “We’re already stocking up,” she said. “Our rates of HIV here in Sydney are lower than many other big cities. We want to keep it that way.” There are said to be ten thousand sex workers in New South Wales, where prostitution and brothels have been legal since 1995. There are strict controls on girls working the streets and on curb-crawlers, with most brothels located away from schools and residential areas. One American sex worker getting ready for the Olympic crunch is Victoria S of San Francisco. She told the BBC she’s been offered work at some half-dozen Sydney brothels. “They’re falling over themselves to get me,” she said. “I’m an American and would be a great item on their list. The men will love me!” |

Canadian Employee Racks up Overtime Watching Online Porn MONTREAL — Dominic Petruz was rolling up huge overtime hours and couldn’t keep up with his job as a technical inspector — yet he spent several hours daily on the Internet even though his job didn’t require it. The reason: he was visiting online porn sites on the job and working overtime just to do his job.Petruz worked at CAE Electronics Ltd., when his boss spotted a problem in early 1999. A check of the company’s computer system confirmed that from January to March that year, Petruz spent 329 hours — equal to eight weeks worth of eight-hour days — on the Net, mostly visiting porn sites. Petruz was fired last June, and in February he lost his appeal before a Quebec arbitration panel. The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union filed the appeal, but the arbitrator ruled for the company, which argued that in March 1999, Petruz was online for equal to three weeks work (120 hours) and claimed 123.7 hours of overtime. Petruz claimed he used the Net no more than two hours a day, saying Internet browsers stay open on Web sites for hours without anyone actually looking. But CAE responded the company Net connections close if 15 minutes pass without any activity on a Web site. Petruz’s actual job involved double-checking mechanical and electrical systems in the plant where CAE builds flight simulators. |

Nude Dancing for One and All? NORTHHAMPTON, MA — Talk about audience participation: The Grotto nightclub here wants its patrons as well as its performers to be able to dance nude.So far, license commissioners have turned the idea down for the club, a popular spot with this city’s gay and lesbian community. But the three commissioners planned to have a public hearing on the matter in March. The Grotto’s co-owner, Steve Bandar, told the Journal nude dancers would perform for male and female patrons and customers might get naked as well. But he said he would not appeal if, following the hearing, the commissioners chose to let the original “no” vote stand. And he offered to suspend alcohol sales on nude dancing nights — one way to duck needing commissioner approval for nude dancing for everyone, the Bulletin says. |

Greek Cleric: Make More Love
ATHENS — Did you ever think you’d hear a church leader encourage you to get it on? That’s precisely what the leader of the Greek Orthodox Church is doing — saying in a sermon Jan. 30 that married couples should not feel guilty about having sex and doing so without specific intent to conceive. Of course, should they happen to conceive, that wouldn’t exactly be a bad thing, according to Archbishop Christodoulos during his sermon. He called lovemaking “a blessed act of marriage” that is “a gift God has given to man and it should not be considered a sin.” |
